This is an early July update from one of our Westford garden projects.

When we first discussed the design, the client explained that his office overlooks this area from about 20 feet away and two stories up. He wanted a garden with enough color and presence that he could enjoy it from his office, with something happening from May through September.

I had an idea: use some stunning summer perennials in larger groupings to create masses of color that could really be seen from a distance. There was just one catch—the bunnies would probably think I had designed the garden for them!

I told the client we could do it, but we’d need a bunny fence.

His answer: “Go for it.”

We installed a simple 2-foot black protective fence that blends into the landscape while keeping the plants protected. Then I designed seven different plant groupings and went to one of the higher-end nurseries to handpick some of the best plants I could find.

By early July, the idea was really coming together. The soft blues and purples, bright yellows and oranges, and different textures are creating exactly the kind of display we wanted—something that catches your eye whether you’re standing beside the garden or looking down from the office.

And most importantly?

The client was ecstatic.

That makes the whole design worthwhile.
