What a difference a blank slate can make!
When we first arrived at this Nashua, NH the original foundation shrubs had already been removed and a beautiful new walkway had been installed. That gave us the opportunity to completely rethink the gardens on both sides of the front entrance.
After studying the sunlight and the architecture of the home, I designed each side a little differently. We incorporated a mixture of shrubs and colorful perennials, but on the right side I decided to do something unexpected — tall blue ornamental grasses across the background.
And WOWZZA!
The blue grasses completely changed the look of the part-sun garden. Their height, texture and blue-green color made that side of the house glisten — surprisingly, even more than the colorful sunny perennial garden on the opposite side.
The best moment came the next morning.
The clients walked outside and just stared at everything. They couldn’t believe how much the front of their home had changed.
“Wow, we never anticipated such beauty here! Thank you so much!”
That’s what I love about garden design. Sometimes one unexpected plant choice is what brings the entire property to life.
