This is the Tyngsboro Dream Diner in late June, and we’re now in year two of caring for these gardens.

Back in May, I personally planted 700 annual Vinca throughout this large slope. This location gets direct morning and midday sun and dries out quickly — exactly the kind of challenging spot where choosing the right plant makes all the difference.

Vinca loves the heat, handles full sun beautifully and doesn’t mind the soil drying out between waterings.

This year we worked 2 yards of compost into the gardens to give the plants a stronger start. As the season progressed, they still needed a little extra help, so we added an iron supplement to get them jumping into those bright pink, white and magenta colors you see starting to fill the hillside.

We also created the colorful flower containers for the property, adding another mix of summer color around the diner.

And this is only late June. These Vinca have plenty of growing and blooming left to do — the goal is for that entire slope to become a mass of color as summer rolls along.

Another season underway at the Dream Diner!
