Sometimes the most exciting garden projects begin with a completely blank slate! That’s exactly what we encountered at this Nashua, NH, property. With all the original shrubs removed before our arrival, we had the perfect opportunity to create an entirely new landscape.
At Greenleaf’s Garden Design, we started by removing 7 yards of old soil and replacing it with 7 yards of fresh, nutrient-rich garden soil, creating a healthy foundation for the new plantings.
A Beautiful Mix of Perennials & Shrubs
On the left side of the front entrance, we designed a combination of flowering perennials and ornamental shrubs. The layered plantings introduce different heights, textures and seasonal colors, creating a welcoming garden that complements the home’s classic brick exterior.
A Blue Wall of Ornamental Grasses
The right side was designed to make a statement! We planted five-foot-tall blue ornamental grasses to create a striking wall of silvery-blue foliage against the red brick.
The real design feature is the contrast between the blue grasses and the deep burgundy foliage of the red-leaved redbud tree. As the plantings mature, this combination will create a dramatic display of contrasting colors, textures and heights.
