🌿 Twenty years later, it was time to reinvent the gardens.

We first worked with this Tyngsboro client 20 years ago, creating a new landscape design for the property. Two decades later, he called us back and said it was time for another revitalization.

When I looked at the gardens in early April, almost none of the perennials were visible yet. I thought, this is going to be easy!

Then I came back in early May.

Everything had exploded with growth. The gardens were lush and full of established perennials, roses and shrubs. I joked that I could probably just pick up a few plants, carry them down the street, put them in a foundation bed and ask for a check!

But that wasn’t going to cut it after 20 years.

🌸 This garden needed something zany. Something different.

I searched local nurseries and online growers looking for unusual plants with interesting foliage, shapes, textures and colors — plants that would give these gardens an entirely new personality.

We kept some of the established landscape but introduced a completely new mix of perennials and flowering plants throughout the beds. The stone walls and mature surroundings gave us a beautiful backdrop to work with.

The reaction from the homeowners said it all:

“This is perfect. This is just what we needed. This is so awesome!”

Then I returned in mid-June and even I had to stop and look at it.

What had recently been freshly planted beds were already filling in with layers of yellow, white, pink and red against all that beautiful foliage.

My thought?

Wow. I planted this. This is lusciously × 100 pretty! 🌺🌿

Sometimes a garden doesn’t need to start over. It just needs a new imagination.
