When I first looked at this Lowell property, the front garden appeared to be mostly shade. On a later visit, I caught the area receiving morning sunshine, and that changed my thinking completely. Instead of treating it as just another shady foundation garden, I thought, let’s give this space some color!
We carefully selected a combination of yellow, purple and multiple shades of green, using both evergreen and deciduous shrubs along with six beautiful perennials. The different foliage colors, shapes and heights give the garden interest even when the plants aren’t flowering.
Once everything was planted, what had been a rather quiet, “lazy shady spot” suddenly came alive. The colors radiate across the front of the home and create a much more welcoming entrance without overwhelming the property.
Sometimes understanding just a few hours of sunlight can completely change what you can do with a garden.
And the best part? One delightfully smiling client!
