Some gardens really surprise you—and this one certainly did!
We planted this Dracut garden last August, right in the heat of summer. With a southern exposure, these beds get blasted with sunshine and heat throughout the day, so choosing plants that could handle those conditions was important.
Fast-forward to early June and WOW! The shrubs and perennials came back bountiful, colorful and ready to put on a show.
The client spends the winter in Florida, so when they returned I joked, “The shrubs and perennials knew you were coming home and wanted to impress you!” And they certainly did.
What impressed me even more was how successfully the garden came through its first winter. Out of approximately 30 plants we installed, only three needed to be replaced.
Considering they were planted during the August heat and then had to establish before their first New England winter, that’s a pretty successful garden!
Now the beds are filling in beautifully, with bright purples, greens and flowering perennials softening the front of the house and walkway.
Another great example of how the right plants in the right location can completely change a landscape.
