Slope Gardens

A slope or hillside can be intimidating when landscape planning.

They have some built-in advantages because there is an instant view of the unique presentation of plants: tall narrow evergreens, spiky flowers, flowing ornamental grasses, and rounded shrubs to animate the garden.

A good idea is to select flowers and vegetation for rocky areas that like to grow in crags and crevices. The use of flat stones, carefully placed rocks or a stone wall softened by plantings, make the rocks feel like they’ve always been there.

A sloped rock garden can become the focal point of your property.

When planting a slope, careful soil preparation can be labor intensive but is entirely worth the effort. If your slope is viewed from the bottom looking up, select shorter plants to allow the eye to move comfortably through the garden.
