One of the pleasures of working with long-term clients is watching their gardens evolve over time. This beautiful Westford garden is maintained for a repeat client who enjoys adding seasonal color throughout the landscape.
This year’s focus was on Proven Winners annuals, known for their exceptional flower power, vibrant colors, and reliable performance throughout the growing season. Last year, the garden featured a larger number of annuals, but the client wanted a more relaxed and refined look with additional breathing room between plantings.
Together, we decided on a more Zen-inspired design, reducing the number of annuals by about fifteen plants and carefully spacing a total of 88 accent annuals throughout the garden beds. The goal was to create a cleaner, more elegant appearance while still delivering months of colorful blooms.
When we finished planting, the client smiled and said, “That’s lovely.” A few moments later she asked me what I thought of the spacing. My answer was simple: the plants would fill in beautifully over the coming weeks, creating a balanced display without feeling overcrowded.
A few days later, friends stopped by and immediately complimented the gardens, commenting on how attractive and inviting they looked. Hearing those reactions reassured the client that the design change was the right decision.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that the homeowner loves the result—and seeing her excitement about the finished garden made this project another success.
Beautiful gardens are always a collaboration between thoughtful design, quality plants, and a client who knows what brings them joy. 🌿
