Sometimes a client comes to us with an idea that sounds a little unusual at first—and then it turns into something spectacular.
Our Tyngsboro client originally told me they loved the look of annual flower displays they had seen at a country club. The problem? Annuals would have to be replanted every spring.
That wasn’t what they wanted.
Instead, their vision was a perennial border approximately 170 feet long and 7 feet deep, with the same beautiful grouping of flowers repeated all the way around the property.
Basically, they wanted us to create a “rubber stamp” garden design.
I’ll admit, this one intimidated me a little! It meant designing approximately 17 repeating groupings using nine different varieties of plants—about 160 plants altogether.
But we took their idea and ran with it.
The repeating pattern now sweeps along the edge of the lawn and through the wooded areas, tying the entire landscape together while still looking natural against the mature trees. We also incorporated plantings around the shed to carry the design throughout the backyard.
When everything was finally planted and mulched, I stood back and thought, “Wow… they were right!”
Their vision worked beautifully.
What started as a somewhat unusual request turned into a magnificent perennial garden. Greenleaf’s Garden Design was able to take the homeowners’ original concept and turn it into a landscape that feels cohesive, colorful and completely at home in this Tyngsboro, MA setting.
And I made sure to give our clients plenty of credit for having the vision to see it before we did! 🌸🌿
Now comes the fun part: watching these 160 plants mature, spread and make that 170-foot border even more impressive year after year.
